Steps
Before you begin
- Grip
- Keep each hand near its staff center. Name the end beside the thumb the thumb end and the opposite end the pinkie end.
- Stance
- Start facing forward with both hands at the hips. Keep the torso free to turn through the shoulder sections.
- Plane
- Hands travel between four body landmarks. Reel ends pass in front of and behind the hip or shoulder, so the apparent box is a front-view teaching map rather than one fixed physical plane.
Things to notice
- The hand-only captions contain left/right slips. The clear recap at 2:28 and the demonstrated destinations resolve the order.
- Moving directly to the next corner omits the full orbit plus quarter that distinguishes this pattern from a simple four-position box.
- The third section requires the reel to pass behind the shoulder; keeping both staffs entirely in front changes the movement.
- Clockwise and counterclockwise depend on viewing direction. Use the named body landmarks when learning from a front-facing diagram.
