Steps
Before you begin
- Grip
- Hold near the staff center and keep track of the thumb-side and pinky-side ends.
- Stance
- Stand comfortably facing the practice plane. Drex keeps his feet planted while his shoulders and elbows accommodate the movement; exact foot width is not prescribed.
- Plane
- Wall plane for the breakdown; the reference includes both wall and wheel plane together-opposite variations.
Things to notice
- For thumb-led antispin, letting the pinky end enter the elbow crease and trapping the next upward movement.
- Mixing up the horizontal tracking end with whichever end happens to point inward at one moment.
- Counting only one end when naming the double-ended staff four-petal pattern.
- Learning only one grip-path version, which makes later changes between isolations and antispins harder.
