Steps
Before you begin
- Grip
- Use the center grips from the foundational lessons. Keep track of which end lies on the thumb side of each hand.
- Stance
- Stand comfortably with room for full arm circles and occasional torso turns.
- Plane
- Begin in the familiar wall-plane patterns. Learn shared hand positions before adding travel or plane changes.
Things to notice
- Switching between shapes without checking that the hand and staff positions actually match.
- Treating timing/direction and prop facing as the same variable.
- Losing track of the thumb-side end after a hybrid.
- Trying the full mixed drill before the individual isolation, antispin and inspin cycles are comfortable.
