Steps
Before you begin
- Grip
- Keep each hand near its staff center. Name the end beside the thumb the thumb end and the opposite end the pinkie end. At home base the thumb ends point toward each other.
- Stance
- Begin upright with feet comfortably apart. Allow the torso to turn as a staff passes the side of the body. Hands just above the hips, about shoulder width apart, with horizontal overlapping staffs and thumb ends facing inward.
- Plane
- The reel thumb end circles in front of the hips while the pinkie end circles behind. The antispin hand follows the reel thumb end.
Things to notice
- This clip begins with the antispin thumb end down, while the longer basic tutorial begins thumb up. Both are valid reverse-direction drills.
- The reel does not stay entirely in front of the torso: the pinkie end circles behind.
- Preserve the hand/end connection instead of performing the two patterns independently.
